Launch of 5G in India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022 exhibition ahead of the official launch of 5G mobile services in India.
Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal announced on Saturday that Airtel is launching 5G telecom services in eight cities, including four metros, and will gradually cover the entire country by March 2024.

Addressing India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, Mittal said, “It is an important day. A new era begins. This beginning takes place in the 75th year of independence and will start a new awareness and energy in the country. It’s going to open up some new opportunities for people.”

After the exhibition opened, he toured the pavilions set up by various telecom operators and technology providers to experience first-hand what 5G can do.
He started at the Reliance Jio booths where he witnessed the ‘True 5G’ devices on display and experienced the use case through Jio Glass.
Along with Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and billionaires Mukesh Ambani of Reliance, Sunil Bharti Mittal of Bharti Airtel and Kumar Mangalam Birla of Vodafone Idea, he spent time understanding the domestic end-to-end development of 5G technology.
He then visited the stalls of Airtel, Vodafone Idea, C-DOT and others.

Airtel users who are currently using the 4G SIM of the telco don’t need to upgrade. However, legacy network users will have to get a new 4G SIM which will also be able to support 5G network connectivity. You also need a 5G phone to go with it
