iPhone 14 Pro supply constraints continue into the New Year

It’s fair to say that the holiday shopping period has been disastrous for Apple in terms of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max availability, with the online Apple Store selling out of available stock in mid November, leaving many holiday shoppers unable to purchase the devices from Apple and third-party retailers.

With the holidays upon us, the online Apple Store is showing that iPhone 14 Pro supply constraints will continue into the New Year, with all iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models showing as available for delivery no sooner than mid January as suppliers catch up with demand.

Due to supply and manufacturing issues faced by Apple in the lead up to the holidays, including factory closures due to COVID-19 outbreaks amongst workers and protesters in China, respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that iPhone 14 Pro shipments could be up to 20 million units lower than expected over the fourth quarter of 2022, with the current demand for the devices likely to “disappear” rather than continue into the first quarter of 2023, with consumers expected to choose not to purchase the device rather than waiting for supply to eventually improve.

With factories returning to full production output capacity and earlier worker unrest now calmed, Apple suppliers are now able to begin catching up with demand for the devices, with it widely expected that the current supply constraints will come to an end fairly soon, although it will be too late for Apple who has missed out on one of its busiest times of the year for iPhone purchases.
