Terraria 1.4.5 Announced

Terraria is set to receive its next major content update sometime in 2023, according to the latest statement from developer Re-Logic. Notorious for receiving one “final” content update after another, version 1.4.4 of the game was supposed to be the grand finale of the cult indie blockbuster. However, Terrarian veterans will know that Re-Logic wants to keep adding more to the game.

One thing that makes Terraria particularly notable is that it often collaborates with a number of other modern indie classics. Content update 1.4.4, for example, added a lot of Stardew Valley stuff to the game, giving fans of both titles a bit of a fun crossover to engage with. So it’s not surprising that custom characters, weapons, and other Terraria-variety content would make their way into other indie titles, which is exactly what may have prompted this new announcement in the first place.

Dead Cells has had a very busy 2022 so far, but its latest content update — Everyone Is Here Vol. 2 — was particularly noteworthy. One of the new playable characters is specifically Terraria’s Guide. To celebrate the latest collaboration between the two games, Re-Logic has made an announcement of its own: Terraria 1.4.5 will arrive sometime in 2023, and at least some of its content will be a direct crossover from Dead Cells itself. In addition, Re-Logic has also hinted that 2023 may be the year the game finally gets crossplay support, although this is yet to be confirmed.

The new Dead Cells update trailer has a section dedicated to Terraria’s Guide NPCs, and since it’s such a notable addition, it seems possible that Terraria 1.4.5 could include a sizable chunk of Dead Cells’ own content once it’s released. If Re-Logic’s track record is anything to go by, players may be looking at something similar to this year’s Labor of Love update for Terraria, which was actually quite hefty.

It was 2021 when the Terraria developers talked about the cut content on Reddit and casually mentioned that update 1.4 would likely be the last update for the game. The developers have said the same for a number of previous content updates, but have returned to work on Terraria time and time again. Something similar happened again with the 1.4.4 update, and with 1.4.5 now announced for 2023, development is apparently still ongoing.

Earlier this year, Terraria celebrated maintaining an overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam with over a million reviews, becoming the first game to reach this milestone. It speaks volumes for the gaming community, and it’s not too surprising that Re-Logic wants to continue working on a well-regarded project like this.
