WhatsApp is finally going to let users send messages to themselves.
WABetaInfo spotted the new feature in the latest version (version 2.22.23.74) of WhatsApp for iOS, which is available to all Apple users. However, the feature is slowly rolling out as it is not currently visible to everyone (for example, I don’t see it in my WhatsApp).
The feature is also available for some Android users on WhatsApp version 2.22.23.77.
To see if you have the DM feature on yourself, start a new chat, and see if your own contact is showing up at the top of your contacts list. When you open this chat, you will see the caption “Send message to self”.
How to Message Yourself on WhatsApp Messaging yourself on WhatsApp
works the same way as starting any other chat on the app. To start a chat with yourself, follow these steps:
- WhatsApp Chats tab
- Tap the Open the bottom right of the screen,
- at the top of the list of contacts, you’ll see your name below the text message . Select your profile to open a new chat.
- A chat window will open just like a regular chat. Here you can type and send messages to yourself.
Like any other chat on WhatsApp, messages are end-to-end encrypted. You can send messages to yourself just like you would in any other chat. When you want to forward a message to yourself, share a picture, or share a link, your profile will pop up in your list of contacts just like any other chat. Depending on how often you use this feature, your profile Frequent Contacts or Recent Chats will appear in
‘ll also see You it in parentheses. This, along with its own message text, will make your profile easier to locate. This feature is definitely a useful hidden WhatsApp trick that users can learn from.
Messaging yourself on WhatsApp is easy. Messaging
yourself on WhatsApp only takes a few steps and works just like any other chat. Once you’ve started chatting with yourself, you can use the window for easy note-taking and other useful shortcuts.
According to WABetaInfo, messages sent to yourself will be visible on all your linked devices and they are end-to-end encrypted.
If you’re wondering why you would want to send messages to yourself, here’s a life hack I use quite often. For example, if you have information like an address, one-time password, link, or even an image on your phone, and you want to be able to access it quickly on your laptop or tablet, sometimes- Sometimes the fastest way to do that is to just send yourself a message.
You can already do this on Slack and Messenger, for example, but if WhatsApp is your chat app of choice, you can now do it there too. Signal also has a “notes to self” feature that allows you to send DMs to yourself and sync them across devices.
This is especially handy when AirDrop, which is usually my preferred way of sharing data across Apple devices, refuses to cooperate.
This feature becomes even more useful with another feature that recently rolled out for WhatsApp beta users: same account on multiple phones, the ability to use theNow, no matter how many devices you’re juggling, you can quickly and securely share bits of information from one device to another.
