How to install and uninstall apps from mac

Macs come with an array of useful programs and apps created by various developers. These resources are useful for day-to-day activities like editing a document, creating new files and photos, or playing games. However, the space taken on your hard drive will increase with the number of installed applications.

If you’re new to Mac and want to learn how to install and uninstall apps on mac, this article is for you. In my opinion, it’s an essential component of becoming a more proficient user of Mac.

How to install apps from the Mac App Store?

One of the best places to download and install apps for your Mac is the Mac App Store. Although it has advantages and disadvantages, it receives the highest rating for usability.

The Apple menu will open the Mac App Store when you choose App Store. You can download apps while logged in with your Apple ID by clicking Get and then installing the app for a paid app, clicking the price label for a free app, or both.

If there are any in-app purchases, they are noted next to the Get button. Your Apple ID and password must be entered in order to confirm payment.

Every Mac App Store app (and update) is examined by Apple before being published, reducing the possibility of issues. The App Store is a fantastic place to organise all of your app updates. You can decide whether to have App Store updates downloaded automatically in System Preferences > Software Update.

Learn How to install Mac apps from third-party app stores?

There are a few alternative stores to the Mac App Store. They consist of a core app that, when launched, lets you control which services’ products you install on your Mac. They are typically specialized in nature. Most people shop for games on Steam. Although it is possible to create desktop shortcuts you can later move, it assumes you’ll launch purchased games from within its app rather than /Applications.

Setapp is a third-party app store that is more comparable to a Mac. You can access dozens of carefully chosen apps for a monthly fee, kind of like a curated Netflix for apps. Apps that have been installed are stored in /Applications/Setapp. Don’t mess around manually with these; instead, manage them using Setapp’s interface.

Few things to look at while installing apps on mac?

You might see security alerts on your Mac when installing and running apps. For instance, your Mac will request confirmation before allowing you to run an app for the first time after you download it from the Internet. (This assumes that you have enabled the installation of apps from known developers in the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences. The default setting can be changed by selecting the appropriate radio button, clicking the lock, and entering your admin password.)

When you first launch an app, you might also see dialogue boxes asking for access to your Downloads folder, camera, microphone, and other resources.

You may only need to click OK on a dialogue box in some circumstances, such as when granting access to your Downloads folder. Others, like the one mentioned above, require you to explicitly grant permission by going to System Preferences.

You can grant or deny permission to apps in a whole column of areas under System Preferences > Privacy, where these settings are stored. You must click the padlock, enter your password, and then check the appropriate boxes to grant permission.

A setting to permit apps downloaded from the App Store or from the App Store and identified developers can be found in the General pane of System Preferences. These latter developers are those who have Apple accounts and sign their apps with certificates issued by Apple to validate their provenance.

But there are circumstances in which you might want to open applications from unknown developers. Choose the app in the Finder, then with the right-click or control-click menu, select Open.

You can also open an unidentified developer’s app by double-clicking on it in System Preferences > General, where a button labelled “Open Anyway” will be located near the bottom of the window. To launch the app, press this button. After you first launch the app, the button is visible for about an hour.

After you launch an app for the first time, you won’t need to do this because your Mac will remember your settings.

How to uninstall apps on mac?

For any Mac user, being able to uninstall apps is a useful skill. Follow the steps given below to uninstall apps on mac:

  1. First, select the icon by clicking on the Finder tab at the bottom of your toolbar.
  2. When you’re in the Finder tool, click the Go menu at the top of the screen. Once you’re in the Go menu, scroll down and select the Applications link.
  3. After selecting the Application link, scroll down until you find the application you want to remove. I’ll be deleting the Steam gaming client in this illustration. To access the “Move to Trash” hyperlink, right-click the icon and scroll down. Toggle it on.
  4. Move down to the trash can in your toolbar once you’ve thrown the application in there. Right-click the trash bin.
  5. The “Empty Trash” hyperlink will appear after you have right-clicked on the trash can. To remove your trash, click on the hyperlink.
  6. You will be prompted with the question “Are you sure you want to permanently erase the items in the Trash?” Select “Empty Trash”
  7. Open your trash can once more to confirm that it has been emptied after clicking “Empty Trash.” The unwanted app has been successfully uninstalled if your trash bin has been empty.
